Youth Employment Opportunities at Salutem 🩵

By Evelyn Deans, Work Experience Student

A common misconception about care services is the idea of limited career options, and demanding work for minimal reward. However, my time at Salutem has shown me that this idea is simply a myth. At its core, Salutem’s aims are to support people to live the life they choose regardless of extra support they may need; however, its functions know no bounds.

As an A level student, one of my main priorities is looking at where to go next and what career path I am interested in, for me this career path is marketing and communications.

So, for a week of work experience organised by my school, I found myself at Salutem in their Marketing and Communications Team. Not only was I exposed to the world of marketing and comms, but I also discovered just how much goes into care services. The number of teams that are dedicating themselves to benefitting the individuals they support was entirely unexpected.

During my work experience, I saw all the opportunities that Salutem offers to people, including career pathways. Currently, Salutem is hiring apprentices, showing their interest in capturing younger audiences that can bring fresh ideas to the company. I had the opportunity to speak on behalf of others my age who are the current demographic of Salutems recruitment and inputted what I believe to be the best way to encourage others into considering a career in social care. Being able to openly share my ideas and see them be taken on board was a huge encouragement and tells me that care services genuinely want younger people involved in what they do.

Salutem has so many careers within itself that they are always hiring, so anyone with the right skills is welcome in their team. Being specifically in the Marketing Team meant I was seeing first-hand all aspects of Salutem and how they advertise care to the upcoming generation of employees.

For example, Salutem recently became a part of The 5% Club which aims to raise the number of apprenticeships and support students and graduates onto formal programmes within workforces. Their determination to bring young people into careers in care is truly admirable, and a huge support to people who feel lost when looking into the world of work.

Completing my work experience at Salutem has been an incredible opportunity and a huge-eye opener to how care services tick. Not only did I gain experience in marketing and communications, but I also saw how a company as united as Salutem maintains its service, and my perception of care services has completely changed.

I want to thank Salutem for all the support they have given me. I have felt so welcome in their community, and they have put honest work into giving me the best experience possible. I consider myself lucky to have had this experience and know that all the young people that Salutem aim to hire, will have the most positive experience just as I had myself.
