Joe, who is supported at High View, took on the challenge of the superhero tri this summer at Dorney Lake, Windsor. This was no easy feat and included swimming, cycling, and running. The Superhero Series, powered by Marvel, is the UK’s only mass-participation sporting event that is dedicated to people with disabilities. The series brings together people form all over the country to join in on all the fun and inclusivity. It really is an amazing event!
Representing High View, Joe had two super sidekicks supporting him: Ben Smith and Andrew Colecloughto. The accomplishment clearly meant a lot to Joe, who was grinning from ear to ear when they crossed the finish line. His determination and efforts earnt him a medal and applause.
Ben Smith, support worker at High View, said:
“Joe is an incredible swimmer, and he really set the pace for us in the water. The swim was definitely the toughest part, but the feeling when we completed it together was amazing. Sharing that hug with Joe at the finish is something I will never forget. I’m so proud of Joe, he gave his all and had a smile on his face the entire time. It was an unforgettable experience.”
John Godden, chief executive of Salutem Care and Education, who attended the event dressed as Thor, added:
“The Superhero Tri is about celebrating ability, resilience, and togetherness, and Joe embodied all of those values. We are so proud of his achievement and the way he represented High View and Salutem at such an inspiring national event.”
The super team returned to Cornwall feeling accomplished with medals and goodie bags in hand and memories that will last a lifetime. The entire High View community felt an incredible sense of pride.🩵
