At Godfrey House, something truly special has been blossoming—both in our gardens and in the hearts of the incredible individuals who live here. Godfrey House is a community of adults with learning and physical disabilities, and they’ve discovered a newfound passion for gardening through a project that has brought everyone all together.
The Fence Project: More Than Just Gardens
Known as The Fence Project, this initiative has transformed empty spaces into vibrant gardens filled with colourful flowers, edible plants, and even little havens for wildlife. But it’s not just about the greenery. The Fence Project has sparked something even more meaningful: new friendships, a sense of pride, and a deep connection to nature that has brightened the lives of everyone involved.
Community Recognition and Praise
Our hard work didn’t go unnoticed! The Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Dave Pragnell, stopped by to see what we’ve created. As he walked through our gardens, he couldn’t help but be impressed by how our community came together to make this dream a reality. He praised The Fence Project as a shining example of what can happen when people join forces for a common cause.
Our Experience
The true essence of this project lies in the profound impact it has had on us. For instance, Gina has experienced a renewed sense of energy and tranquility through her hands-on involvement in the garden. Likewise, Andrew has found great satisfaction in the simple act of planting seeds and nurturing them as they grow. For us, gardening is not merely an activity; it is an opportunity to feel connected, to contribute to something meaningful, and to find joy in life’s simpler pleasures.
The Fence Project has provided us with a remarkable opportunity to engage with our community and to discover the joys of gardening together. It represents more than just a garden—it is a space where we have all experienced personal growth and deepened our sense of community.
