As we continue celebrating National Apprenticeship Week, today we would like to shine a light on Amaan Hussain, who recently joined Salutem as a Level 3 IT Support apprentice. Amaan’s journey is a clear example of how apprenticeships can support people at different stages of their career; either new starters or graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in the workplace.
Before joining Salutem, Amaan completed a Digital Business degree at university which gave him a solid foundation in digital systems, business processes and technology. While this was super beneficial to equip him with knowledge, Amaan knew that to build a career in IT he needed practical experience, which is what led him to choose an apprenticeship after graduating.
Amman explains:
“I’ve recently started an apprenticeship as an IT Technician, and with the support of the team, I’m looking forward to providing technical support to all of our services throughout England and Wales.
Usually, people who do apprenticeships don’t go to university, but I chose to pursue both to broaden my knowledge, explore my interests, and confirm my desire to pursue a career in IT. Studying Digital Business at university equipped me with a strong, versatile skill set and a solid foundation that now helps me understand and excel in my apprenticeship and its responsibilities.
I chose the apprenticeship route after university because I believe it’s the best way to gain hands-on experience and learn directly from experienced IT professionals. It’s already helping me develop the practical skills I need to diagnose and resolve technical issues across the company.
By the end of my apprenticeship, I’ll achieve a Level 3 qualification in IT Support, and I’m really looking forward to growing my career in IT with Salutem.”
Amman’s story highlights the flexibility and value of apprenticeships, whether someone is starting their career, changing direction, or adding practical experience after university. His enthusiasm and willingness to learn reflect exactly what apprenticeships are all about: building confidence, gaining real‑world skills, and shaping a strong future career.
