“From being their paediatric nurse while working in the NHS to supporting them now as young adults from the comforts of their home, I feel like I have come full circle!”
Kirsten Molcher, Clinical Lead at Lewis Martin Court in Cardiff, joined the Salutem family at the beginning of the pandemic looking for a change and exciting new opportunity. After qualifying 22 years ago, being a Clinical Manager for over 13 years and having worked in various NHS settings throughout her career, Kirsten tells us what it’s been like switching from public to private and providing one-to-one support for young people in their homes.
“Working for Salutem Care & Education is very different from where I have worked previously, especially the overall ethos and work culture. It is far less clinical than other settings I’ve worked in, and there is more of a focus on the social model and creating relationships with the young individuals we support, which is great for their care and quality of life. I work with a great team with more autonomy, and I’m able to use my skills to their full ability as I have the responsibility of being in charge of all aspects of clinical care.
For me, the best aspect of working at Lewis Martin Court is that when I was a paediatric nurse with the NHS, I nursed many of the young adults I support now when they were younger, and now I get to support them every day in the comforts of their home – so I feel like I have come full circle!
My role as part of the internal staff team at the home is very rewarding, more so than my roles with the NHS. The individuals we support here are amazing and it is an honour to be part of their lives.”
