This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible impact apprenticeships have across Salutem Care & Education. Apprenticeships continue to be one of the most powerful ways we nurture talent, open doors, and develop skilled, confident colleagues across our organisation.
To mark the week, Rachel Deans, Director of Learning and Development, shared a powerful reflection on how apprenticeships shape careers and change lives, both within Salutem and beyond.
Rachel Deans’ Reflection on the Power of Apprenticeships
“As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week at Salutem Care & Education, I’ve been reflecting on how much apprenticeships have shaped my career.
My journey began as an apprentice in a local office, a start that gave me confidence, purpose, and a pathway I may never have otherwise found. And the learning never stops as I’m now completing a Level 7 apprenticeship, proving that apprenticeships are powerful at every stage of a career.
But what inspires me just as much, is seeing how apprenticeships continue to change lives across Salutem. This week has been full of incredible stories of colleagues who have grown, progressed, and stepped into new opportunities. The pride, the courage, the determination; it shines through every case study, every conversation, every celebration we’ve shared.
From colleagues starting their first qualification to those completing higher‑level apprenticeships while balancing busy roles, the stories are nothing short of amazing. Their journeys highlight what apprenticeships do best: build confidence, develop skills, and open real and meaningful career pathways within a sector that relies deeply on skilled, compassionate, and committed people.
Apprenticeships are not a ‘nice to have’; they’re essential. They help us nurture talent, grow our workforce, and strengthen the quality of the care and education we provide. They are one of the most powerful tools we have to support people to flourish, and that’s why we must continue to champion, protect, and invest in them.
This week, we’re not just celebrating apprenticeships. We’re celebrating our people. Those who have taken a brave first step, those who are pushing themselves to grow, and those whose success is already inspiring the next wave of learners. I couldn’t be prouder to be part of an organisation that celebrates and supports them so wholeheartedly.”
Celebrating Growth, Talent & Opportunity Across Salutem
Throughout the week, we’ve shared inspirational stories from apprentices at every level; from first‑time learners to experienced colleagues advancing their careers. Their journeys highlight the true value of apprenticeships:
- Real career progression
- Strengthened skills and confidence

As Rachel highlights, apprenticeships aren’t simply a programme – they’re a vital part of how we grow, develop, and support our people.
