Inspectors were full of praise for the home, noting that Birchwood delivers care that consistently exceeds expectations and has a hugely positive impact on the lives of the individuals who live there. They highlighted the exceptionally warm and respectful interactions between staff and residents, noting how deeply the team understands each person’s communication needs and how this helps people feel safe, valued and reassured.
The CQC also recognised the strong, values-driven culture at Birchwood, describing the home as having a clear, shared vision shaped around transparency, equality, inclusion and human rights. Inspectors commented on the dedication shown by the staff team and their commitment to supporting people not just with their complex health needs, but to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
They were especially impressed by the opportunities available to those living at Birchwood; from attending college to developing independence and enjoying wonderful experiences like holidays abroad, including Mediterranean cruises and trips to Cyprus. These examples highlight the positive, life-enriching support that is embedded into the home’s everyday practice.
The team’s work was reflected in an Outstanding rating for Caring and Well-led, alongside Good in Safe, Effective and Responsive, leading to an Outstanding overall outcome – an incredible achievement for everyone involved.
