30 years of making a difference – Andy Clegg, Education Spotlight💙

At Salutem, we are proud to celebrate the incredible journeys of our colleagues who make a real difference in the lives of our learners. Today, we’re delighted to shine a spotlight on Andy Clegg, an experienced FE Teacher at Beaumont College whose passion and commitment have shaped three decades of specialist education.

Andy joined Beaumont College 30 years ago, starting as an IT Tutor and Technician at our Lancaster campus. Over the years, his dedication to learning and development has been clear:

  • After 20 years at Lancaster, expanded experience across Beaumont College locations in Blackpool, Carlisle, Barrow, and now South Lakes in Ulverston.
  • Gained City & Guilds qualification and became a Learning Support Worker.
  • Completed a PGCE and transitioned into an FE Teacher role.
  • Continued professional development with modules from a Master’s in Education.

When asked what inspired this career path, Andy shared:

“I worked as a Computer Programmer at Lancaster University in the mid-80s, designing software for pupils at a specialist school. Seeing the impact on their development was so rewarding and it made me realise I wanted to work in specialist education.”

For Andy, working at Beaumont College means being part of a team that truly cares:

“We have an amazing team at South Lakes. Everyone is committed to helping students reach their full potential as they transition into adult life. No two days are ever the same, and that’s what makes it so rewarding.”

Favourite memory?

“Welcoming new students each September is always special. Meeting new personalities and seeing their progress by Graduation Day is the ultimate reward.”

Andy’s journey is a fantastic example of how passion and perseverance can lead to growth and success. We’re proud to have him as part of the Beaumont College family.
